The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
It has been 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a leading film company and introducing audiences to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang
In the teaser shows Bonnie ā who received Andy's toys when he grew up ā receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
