Cars in Germany's City Discovered Smeared with Swastikas in Human Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Authorities stated they were alerted by a man who noticed a vehicle in Hanau covered with red-colored fluid

Approximately 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.

Law enforcement state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.

The liquid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Police then found multiple other vandalized cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Police report initial examinations show the liquid was most likely human blood.

"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; investigators are not yet aware of any harm in association with the event," they commented.

City officials said they were working "to solve the case" and have appealed to the residents for information.

A high-ranking representative said the vandalism made him without words and had to be solved rapidly.

"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he wrote on social media, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
